Vietnamese Education House Celebrates Language Abroad

The Vietnam Education Publishing House (VEPH) has been actively promoting the Vietnamese language among overseas Vietnamese communities for many years. The government of Vietnam designated September 8 as the annual Day to Honor the Vietnamese Language in Overseas Vietnamese Communities in 2022, and VEPH has been instrumental in celebrating this event.

VEPH participates in various events marking the Day to Honor the Vietnamese Language, such as supporting the 'Spring in the Homeland' event and launching book contests. One of their notable initiatives is the 'Chao Tieng Viet' series by Dr. Nguyen Thuy Anh, tailored for children aged 6 to 15 living abroad, which received the A Prize at the 6th National Book Awards in 2023.

VEPH has also implemented the 'Vietnamese Book Cabinet' project in collaboration with SCOV. This project provides curated Vietnamese book collections in communities with Vietnamese populations, with 12 cabinets in 10 countries and territories. In Laos, Vietnamese bookcases have been established at locations such as the Phat Tich Pagoda in Vientiane, holding hundreds of Vietnamese-language books and serving learners of Vietnamese language and culture in the region.

To engage children overseas, VEPH collaborated with VTV4 to produce a TV program teaching Vietnamese, broadcast since April 2023. VEPH has also published textbooks like 'Que Viet' and 'Tieng Viet Vui' to promote the Vietnamese language abroad, and provides free electronic versions of textbooks from Grade 1 to Grade 12 on its website. A new program titled 'Tieng Viet Dieu Ky', launched in April 2025, teaches Vietnamese through folktale storytelling and animated characters.

VEPH's dedication to preserving and promoting the Vietnamese language among overseas communities is evident in its various initiatives. From celebrating the Day to Honor the Vietnamese Language to providing educational resources and engaging children through storytelling, VEPH considers the Vietnamese language as both a communication tool and the 'soul' of Vietnamese culture.
