Upcoming Lightshow Award Winner: "United for Your Tomorrow"

Ready to impress with your very own light show? Don't let those customer wishes get in the way – it's your time to shine in the Next Lightshow Award! Compete on a global scale and showcase your creativity while challenging fellow trainees in theatre and event technology from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. With four categories to choose from – Live, Theatre, Fixed objects/trade fair, and Animation – prove that your light design skills are second to none!

To enter, simply upload a 45-90 second video of your light show masterpiece to the EventCampus website by February 15, 2022. Represent as an individual or form a team of up to four trainees, and get ready for a double whammy evaluation: the public and the judges' votes!

The judges' votes will comprise 50% of the total, while the other 50% comes from the public – meanwhile, you can gather support by sharing your post among family, friends, and enthusiasts! The submission deadline for projects is March 27, 2022.

Rewards abound for our stellar performers, as winners take home €500 and a beautifully crafted trophy, plus the exclusive opportunity to shine before a broad audience. By entering, you'll already be setting yourself apart from the pack, demonstrating your comprehensive know-how and a flair for creative execution. The award ceremony will take place at Prolight + Sound in Frankfurt at the end of April 2022.

The education portal for trainees in the event industry, IGVW 4 Education, supports the Next Lightshow Award, providing valuable insight into the competition and lighting technology in online events from February 11 to 26, accessed free of charge and without registration.

The award was formed by the Austrian Theatre Technical Society (OETHG), the Swiss Association of Technical Stage and Event Professions (SVTB), and the Interessengemeinschaft Veranstaltungswirtschaft (IGVV) with its 16 German member associations through EventCampus, a platform promoting practical education as an extension for school and company apprenticeships.

In an interview with Joerg Gantenbein, President of SVTB and Project Manager of EventCampus, he touches on the origins and significance of the Next Lightshow Award.

1. How did the idea of the Next Lightshow Award come about?

"Our goal was to highlight success in the trainees' work, allowing the public to appreciate their efforts and learn from one another. The EventCampus website serves as the ideal platform to bring together educational projects, and we've been fortunate to collaborate with associations across DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) to find projects that excite us."

2. Where can one see and rate the entries in the public voting?

"From March 28, you'll be able to access our website, watch the video submissions from each category, and cast your votes according to what you prefer.

3. What awaits the winner(s)?

"In our opinion, those who participate are already winners, as they make a name for themselves and draw widespread acclaim. Following the public vote, an independent panel of judges made up of renowned lighting designers will analyze the submissions and allocate points, with the total serving as 50% of the public vote. From this, a Best of winner from each category will be chosen, receiving a custom trophy along with €500 in prize money."

4. The award ceremony is to take place at Prolight + Sound 2022. Why there of all places?

"Trade fairs unite people and their ideas. It's more important than ever that we come together, and Prolight + Sound events celebrate that gathering of professionals in the industry. We're proud to celebrate these young talents alongside our industry peers."

5. Many trade fairs have not taken place for two years. What significance do trade fairs still carry today?

"Though the landscape may have changed, trade fairs remain essential for networking and learning from fellow professionals. In an ever-evolving business environment, trade fairs continue to help us adapt, innovate, and stay informed."

6. Looking ahead optimistically, Prolight + Sound 2022 is expected to take place. What expectations do you have for the trade fair?

"After so many months apart, I'm incredibly excited to reconnect with colleagues, share ideas, and discover new advances in my field."

7. Will you be attending the fair outside of the awards ceremony? If so, what can visitors expect?

"Definitely! I will undoubtedly check out various products and innovations that our industry has to offer – always interesting days full of learning and inspiration!"
