TSA Adopts Newest Apple Technology as Acceptable Alternative to REAL ID Credential
Keeping up with the Times: Apple's Digital ID for Domestic Flights
Let's face it, who hasn't had the dreaded moment when they've almost forgotten their ID at the airport? Thankfully, Apple's latest tech innovation - Digital IDs - can now save the day (and your vacation)! According to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), these nifty little extras can be used as an alternative to a Real ID for domestic flights.
Say goodbye to the hassle of rummaging through your wallet for your ID at airport checkpoints. Apple's Digital ID lets you store and present your ID information privately and effortlessly right in your Apple Wallet. This new feature offers you another option, aside from a Real ID, for identity verification during domestic flights.
The TSA's official endorsement doesn't stop there! Their website confirms that you can use your Digital ID at more than 250 airports across the U.S, via platforms like Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, Samsung Wallet, or even state-issued apps.
But hold up, Digital IDs aren't your global travel pass. They won't be accepted for international trips or border crossings, so don't ditch that trusty old passport just yet. A Digital ID is no substitute for a physical passport. You'll still need your passport to create a Digital ID, by the way.
Apple went above and beyond at their Worldwide Developers Conference, announcing the revamped boarding pass feature with Live Activities. This handy function will allow real-time flight updates for you and your folks, making it far easier to keep everyone in the loop.
The updated boarding passes will provide extra features such as tracking your travel items using Find My, getting around various airports and exploring new cities with Maps, and accessing key airline services, standby lists, and seat upgrades. Some of the pioneering airlines to implement this upgrade include American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines, to name a few.
Unsure whether you already have a Real ID? Fear not! Our guide can help you figure it out, and if not, we'll walk you through the process of obtaining one. Just remember, a Real ID is different from an Enhanced Driver's License, and you can find all the specifics here.
Now, before you start charging your phone at the airport, TSA has a word of caution. Find out why powering up at the airport isn't always the smartest move. After all, knowledge is power!
Incorporate your Digital ID into your lifestyle by storing travel documents, such as domestic flight IDs, within your Apple Wallet, thanks to Apple's technology innovation. However, keep in mind that while a Digital ID can be used at more than 250 airports across the US, it does not replace a passport for international travel.
