Tokyo Crowned World's Best Workcation City in 2025

Tokyo has been crowned the world's best workcation city for 2025, according to IWG's Work from Anywhere Barometer. The Japanese capital topped the global list due to its exceptional broadband speeds, transport infrastructure, safety, culture, and digital nomad visa. This news comes as ten new cities, including Tokyo and Seoul, have been added to the list, scoring well on digital nomad visas and proximity to nature.

Cities were recently scored across 12 criteria, including climate, broadband, flexible workspaces, digital nomad visas, and proximity to nature. Tokyo's outstanding performance in these areas has led to its recognition as the top workcation destination. Besides Tokyo, other Asian cities that secured places in the 2025 Work from Anywhere Barometer include Singapore, which ranks 4th among Asian cities in the list of best workcation destinations. Seoul, another notable city, is a sought-after workcation destination for hybrid workers due to its ultra-fast internet, efficient transport, and digital nomad community.

Adopting flexible workspaces as part of a hybrid strategy could boost productivity by up to 11% over five years. Companies with flexible working arrangements have lower voluntary turnover and stronger talent retention. Hybrid working has also been shown to reduce burnout and improve work-life balance for employees.

Tokyo's top ranking as a workcation city highlights the importance of factors such as broadband speeds, infrastructure, and digital nomad visas in attracting remote workers. With ten new cities added to the list, including Seoul, the global landscape for work-from-anywhere is expanding, offering more options for hybrid workers seeking a balance between work and travel.
