Thailand Bolsters Border Security with New High-Tech Fence Along Thai-Cambodian Border

Thailand is fortifying its border security with a new fence project along the Thai-Cambodian border. The National Security Council (NSC) has approved the initiative, which aims to combat cross-border crime and enhance national security. The project enjoys strong support from the Prime Minister, military leaders, and local communities.

The project's core is an 'electronic fence' featuring advanced CCTV systems for constant surveillance. This high-tech barrier will be supplemented by permanent fences in agreed boundary zones and temporary measures in undemarcated areas. The Royal Thai Armed Forces (RTARF) is spearheading the project, overseeing construction zones, technical specifications, and fence designs.

The initial phase focuses on building a 23.6-kilometre permanent fence in Sa Kaeo province, where the boundary line is clear. The first CCTV pole was installed on September 18 at Border Post 50 in Aranyaprathet, marking a significant milestone. The project is expected to extend over 110.992 kilometres, similar to the existing Thai-Malaysian border fence.

Public support for the initiative is robust, with the Hathaithip Fund raising over 100 million baht. Local communities affected by border conflicts also back the project, seeing it as a solution to daily security challenges.

The Thai-Cambodian border fence project is underway, with the first CCTV pole now in place. The project's success relies on effective collaboration between the RTARF, local communities, and the public. With strong support from the government and the people, this initiative aims to significantly enhance border security and combat cross-border crime.
