The Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) has made significant strides in the fight against Alzheimer's disease. Their digital platform, ourplatform.org, has been recognised by the CLASSY Awards, the largest social impact awards ceremony in the United States, as a finalist for its innovative use of cloud and digital technologies in life sciences.
Our platform.org is a collaborative genomic and biomedical research platform that aims to better understand how our brain learns and remembers items of information, with the ultimate goal of developing a better-informed cure for Alzheimer's. The platform facilitates data sharing, analysis, and integration among researchers to accelerate discoveries related to Alzheimer's disease mechanisms, diagnostics, and potential treatments.
TGen's work on this project is led by an Associate Professor in TGen's Neurogenomics Division, and the institute has already gathered results from nearly 28,000 volunteers who have taken the test on our platform.org. The goal is to gather results from as many as 1 million participants.
Alzheimer's disease is a significant socioeconomic issue, affecting more than 5 million Americans, being the 6th leading cause of death in the U.S., and costing the nation over $200 billion annually to treat.
