Sweltering summer days

The city of Düsseldorf is gearing up for an exciting summer as the "Düsseldorf Home Summer" event is set to commence on June 28th. Although the exact details of the event are yet to be revealed, based on past summer festivals in the city, attendees can expect a lively atmosphere with outdoor entertainment, diverse culinary offerings, and opportunities to explore lifestyle and design trends.

In an effort to adhere to hygiene and distance regulations, the event will take place in city-owned areas in all districts. This measure is aimed at preventing larger crowds and ensuring a safe environment for all participants.

For those interested in attending, registrations can be made on the official website www.heimatsommer-duesseldorf.de.

The appeal for tourism in Düsseldorf now includes visuals like the Benrather Castle, "Off to the South" headline, and a woman and sunflower on the Oberkassel Rhine meadows. With the ongoing Corona pandemic, many locals who have had to cancel or postpone their holiday plans are expected to stay in the city this summer.

Mayor Thomas Geisel aims to provide opportunities for sectors like gastronomy and showmen to recover from the effects of the pandemic. To that end, renowned Düsseldorf hotels are offering exclusive overnight packages for the city's residents.

The tourist information centers in the city receive one third of their visitors from Düsseldorf. Many locals who participate in tours of the city express surprise at what they discover about their own city.

Despite the challenges posed by the Corona pandemic, the city of Düsseldorf is experiencing increased interest in tourism. In a recent survey by the Gesellschaft für Konsumforschung, it was found that 75 percent of Germans have either cancelled or postponed their planned holiday due to the pandemic.

Mayor Geisel hopes that the event may alleviate the problematic crowds in the old town, particularly on weekends. Approximately 60 stands of showmen will transform the inner and old town into a mile of experiences.

While it is uncertain what specific activities the "Düsseldorf Home Summer" will offer, based on past events, attendees could expect music festivals with live performances by various artists on multiple stages, street theater, and urban art displays. Food festivals featuring international street food, gourmet experiences, and beverage tastings are also likely.

Cultural gatherings that combine music, food, art, and social experiences under summer open-air settings, as well as lifestyle and interior shows showcasing new products, trends, personal encounters, and innovations, often with premium catering and hospitality, are also possibilities.

For precise information, verifying the event’s official website or local event listings closer to the date is recommended. In the meantime, residents and visitors alike can look forward to a vibrant summer in Düsseldorf.
