In the heart of Astana, a vibrant and heartwarming performance took place, honouring the 180th anniversary of the birth of Abai Kunanbayev, a significant figure in Kazakh culture. The event, held near the Abai monument, was a testament to the enduring legacy of this pioneering poet, philosopher, educator, and national symbol.

Around 100 active pensioners from the Active Longevity Center in Astana participated in the performance, reading Abai Kunanbayev's poems from memory. For them, reading his works was not a duty but a call from their hearts. Ermek ata, one of the participants, shared this sentiment, expressing that Abai's words continue to offer support and guidance in their advanced years.

The performance was more than just a tribute to Abai Kunanbayev's memory; it was a sign of respect for his immortal legacy. Meryurt QAIYRTASQYZY, head of the information promotion department of social services at the Active Longevity Center, emphasized that Abai's legacy is a living thread connecting generations. His works serve as a source of eternal truths, moral guidance, and love for the Motherland.

The performance created an atmosphere of spiritual unity, wisdom, and the beauty of Kazakh poetry. The participants recited several of Abai Kunanbayev's most celebrated poems, including "Közimniŋ qaraсы", "Jelsiz tünde jaryq ai", and "Gylym tappaı maqtanba". These performances resonated deeply with the audience, reminding them of the profound impact Abai Kunanbayev continues to have on Kazakh culture.

Abai Kunanbayev's significance lies in his philosophical and literary contributions, education and modernization efforts, and his role as a cultural bridge and national identity symbol. His poetry and philosophical writings reflect a deep nationalism rooted in Kazakh folk traditions, combined with influences from Islamic-nomadic philosophy and Western thought. He introduced new poetic forms, meters, and rhyme schemes into Kazakh literature, producing about 170 original poems and 56 translations.

Living during a transitional period from nomadic oral traditions to written literature, Abai synthesized diverse influences—Kazakh oral literature, Islamic teachings, Russian and Western philosophies—to create a unique literary space that played a foundational role in Kazakh nation-building. His legacy is intertwined with the spirit of modern Kazakh statehood.
