Regulations for Blades and Electric Scooters at the Annual Festivity - Regulation Modifications for Knife and E-scooter Usage at Oktoberfest

The much-anticipated Oktoberfest in Munich is gearing up for another exciting edition, with a host of new regulations and enhanced security measures in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

In an announcement by Police Vice-President Christian Huber, the proven measures for Oktoberfest security have been sharpened to address the growing challenges posed by the increasing number of attendees.

Restricted bag sizes will be enforced at the festival, as in previous years, to maintain order and streamline entry controls to the fenced-off festival grounds. The ban on drones and other flying objects around the Wiesn remains in place to ensure the safety of the crowd.

One of the most significant changes this year is the ban on E-Scooters in the Theresienwiese area after 5:00 PM. This decision was made due to concerns about the increased number of unauthorized E-Scooter rides by intoxicated festival-goers, which poses a significant safety risk.

In a bid to promote accessibility and inclusion, the latest regulations for using electric wheelchairs at the Munich Oktoberfest have been finalised. Venues provide wheelchair-accessible seating quotas, barrier-free water fountains, and assistance from stallholders. Precise rules for electric wheelchair use are aligned with general mobility accessibility to ensure an inclusive festival experience for guests with disabilities.

The risk level for Oktoberfest is considered high due to its importance and popularity. However, there are no concrete indications of attack plans or other threats for the event this year. Upskirting is not tolerated at Oktoberfest and can result in up to two years' imprisonment.

In an effort to combat crimes against sexual self-determination, the enforcement forces at Oktoberfest are focusing on this area this year. Any harassment and violence in this regard will be pursued vigorously.

In addition, cannabis consumption is prohibited and not tolerated on the entire Oktoberfest festival grounds. The knife ban at Oktoberfest has been expanded to the surrounding area of the Theresienwiese.

For the first time, mobile phone charging stations with empty batteries will be available in the beer tents at Oktoberfest, ensuring that festival-goers can stay connected throughout the event.

With these measures in place, Oktoberfest 2023 promises to be a safe and enjoyable event for all, offering a unique Bavarian experience that attracts visitors from around the world.
