Pope Leo XIV Welcomes U.S. Pilgrims, Vows to Address Global Concerns
Pope Leo XIV, residing in the Apostolic Palace, recently welcomed a group of U.S. pilgrims led by Greek Orthodox Archbishop Elpidophoros and Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin. The pilgrimage, held during the Holy Year of Hope and the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, was a return to the faith's roots and a commemoration of unity.
The pilgrims, including Cardinal Tobin who co-chairs the North American Orthodox-Catholic Theological Consultation, gathered to recite the Nicene Creed, a symbol of Christian faith. They chanted 'Christ is risen', celebrating the triumph over sin and death. Pope Leo XIV assured the group that the cries of innocent victims and mourning mothers would not be ignored.
The Pope expressed his desire to meet the pilgrims again at the ecumenical commemoration of the Council of Nicaea. He encouraged them to be witnesses and bearers of hope, echoing Cardinal Tobin's wish for the pilgrimage to bring consolation and gladness to humanity.
The U.S. pilgrims' visit to the papal summer residence in Castel Gandolfo marked a significant moment of unity and hope. Pope Leo XIV's assurance and encouragement highlight the Church's commitment to addressing global concerns and fostering ecumenical dialogue.
