Spicing Up Life for Seniors: A Variety Show in Komi
Last month, the regional branch of the Senior Communication Centers in Komi threw a vibrant event lineup. From financial literacy workshops to leisure evenings, there was something for everyone.
Stepping into the spotlight, the Worldwide Dandelion Day truly stood out. Held on May 13th, this history-making event took place at the O. Chuprov Library in Ust-Tsylma village. Participants learned the wonders of the humble dandelion, delving into its medicinal, cosmetic, and culinary uses. Dish ideas like salads, jam, and borscht inspired many to whip up unique recipes at home.
Home gardening tips also flourished, as center visitors discussed the intricacies of growing seasonal vegetables and resilient plant varieties for cold-climate regions.
Music and historical remembrance took center stage at a Great Victory anniversary commemoration in Sosnogorsk. The mood was set with stirring patriotic hits, like "Sacred War" and "Katyusha", performed by talented artists from the "Morozka" and Cossack "Garnizon" ensembles. As the audience sang along, the powerful live renditions and wartime footage gave an unforgettable, emotional experience.
Fast forward to May 15th, when the Day of Komi Literature was celebrated at the Central Children's Library in Yemva. The occasion is a nod to the advent of the first Komi alphabet by St. Stephen of Perm back in 1372. The Senior Citizens Interaction Center in Knyazhpogost District hosted an ethno-quiz titled, "The Language of My Ancestors Should Not Die Out." Guests tested their knowledge in categories like "Komi Authors," "We are Komi," "Finno-Ugric Puzzle," "Komi-Russian," and "Literary Walks."
Tatiana Fefelova, a participant, shared her enthusiasm: "The questions were challenging and engaging. We learned a lot, it was very informative!"
