Long-haul journey: Tickets now available for the world's longest non-stop flight operated by a Chinese airline, spanning a distance of 19,300 kilometers.
In an exciting development for global aviation, China Eastern Airlines is set to break records with the world's longest direct flight. The flight, designated as China Eastern 745, will operate from Buenos Aires to Shanghai, with the outbound flight departing every Monday and Thursday starting December 4th.
This monumental journey, expected to take approximately 29 hours, will be operated by a Boeing 777-300, one of the world's longest-range commercial aircraft. The return flight, China Eastern 746, will operate on Tuesdays and Fridays.
While the specific names of the pilot or flight control personnel for this record-breaking flight have not been publicly disclosed, it is known that the flight will have a two-hour stopover in Auckland, New Zealand, but passengers will not have the opportunity to disembark. The flight will need to refuel midway due to its distance of approximately 19,300 kilometers.
This new record surpasses the current holder, Air China Flight 897, which flies from Beijing via Madrid to São Paulo. The flight from Shanghai to Buenos Aires will be approximately 25.5 hours long.
Meanwhile, Qantas, the Australian national carrier, is also making waves in the aviation industry. The airline plans to break records in 2026 with two nonstop flights: one from Sydney to New York and another from Sydney to London. The Sydney to London route would take the top spot at almost 17,059 kilometers, making it the longest nonstop flight in the world.
Qantas plans to use an Airbus A350-1000 for these flights, known for their fuel efficiency and comfort. The Sydney to New York route would be about 644 kilometers longer than the one to Singapore, currently held by Singapore Airlines with a flight time of nearly 19 hours from New York to Singapore.
For those interested in experiencing this historic journey, one-way economy tickets for flights in December are advertised on the China Eastern website for prices ranging from $1,538 to $2,270 (€1,309 to €1,933). Upgrading to business class for a flat bed during the flight will cost at least $5,000 (€4,257).
As the world of aviation continues to push boundaries, these record-breaking flights are a testament to the advancements in technology, efficiency, and comfort that are transforming long-haul travel.
