The world of landscape architecture is a vibrant and ever-evolving field, and one of the best ways to recognize and celebrate outstanding work is through various awards and competitions. Here's a roundup of some of the most prestigious landscape design awards and competitions that are currently taking place or have recently concluded.

The International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) Awards, announced at the IFLA World Congress, celebrate global leadership in landscape design. Winning these awards can significantly improve an architect's or firm's reputation, as the work is judged by a panel of other architects.

In Australia, the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) Awards are the leading recognition for landscape design. These awards cover categories such as civic landscapes, parks, and small projects. Winning these awards leads to increased visibility, with projects being published in leading design journals, featured in exhibitions, and highlighted across digital platforms.

The Landscape Design MasterPrize (LDMP) by AMP focuses on creativity, sustainability, and innovation in landscape architecture worldwide. This competition features projects ranging from public parks and gardens to large-scale ecological and urban interventions.

The World Landscape Architecture Awards highlights built and conceptual works from around the globe, with winners gaining significant visibility online and in the WLA annual eBook.

The SBID International Design Awards has a landscape subcategory, and winners gain recognition from both a jury and public vote. In 2024, the SBID Awards included residential landscape designs in the UK and mixed-use urban courtyards in Europe. The 2025 winners of the SBID Awards are to be announced during October. No official date has yet been set for the 2026 SBID Awards.

The Asia Landscape Design Awards celebrate innovation across Asia, recognizing projects that balance tradition with modernity. Other landscape architecture awards for 2026 have not been detailed yet, but the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) holds annual professional awards (last announced for 2025), and other design award submissions for 2026 are expected to open later.

In addition to these, the European Garden Award highlights the best contemporary gardens and landscape projects across Europe. The 2025 WLA Awards winners for Commercial Landscape Design, Institutional Landscape Design, and Large Public Space Landscape Design have been announced. Submissions for the 2025 Landscape Design MasterPrize close on September 30.

Finally, the Giardina garden event in Zurich, taking place from March 11 to March 15, 2026, will feature garden, terrace, and balcony inspirations, as well as exhibitions relevant to landscape and garden design.

Award-winning projects can lead to new opportunities, as they serve as valuable evidence when bidding for major commissions, particularly commercial projects. So, keep an eye out for these prestigious awards and competitions, and who knows, your next project could be a winner!
