Kenya's Inaugural Africa EV Mobility Expo to Boost Sustainable Transport

Kenya is set to host a groundbreaking event, the inaugural Africa EV Mobility Expo, in Nairobi from December 4 to 6, 2025. This significant gathering aims to accelerate Africa's shift towards sustainable transportation, with a focus on electric vehicles (EVs).

The Expo, to be held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), will bring together exhibitors, policy forums, and trade facilitation programs. It will attract participants from Africa, Asia, and Europe, running concurrently with the Africa Motor Show.

While Kenya has over 4,000 electric vehicles, mostly electric motorcycles, tuk-tuks, and buses, high acquisition costs and limited local assembly are hindering wider adoption. To address this, the government plans to exempt the next 6,000 locally manufactured EVs from taxation. Additionally, charging infrastructure is being improved with plans to deploy charging stations along key highways.

Key speakers at the Expo have called for integrated approaches to accelerating EV adoption across Africa. The event is expected to showcase the latest EV technologies and foster dialogue on policies and strategies to promote EV use.

The Africa EV Mobility Expo in Nairobi promises to be a pivotal moment in Kenya and Africa's EV journey. By addressing challenges like high costs and charging infrastructure, and fostering international collaboration, the Expo aims to accelerate Africa's transition to sustainable transportation.
