Heavy Traffic Expected on German Highways This Weekend
German motorists face a busy weekend with heavy traffic expected on major highways due to holidays, events, and construction sites. A driving ban for heavy trucks aims to ease congestion, but increased travel traffic is anticipated on key routes.
On the Day of German Unity (October 3), traffic is expected to peak in the morning, with congestion anticipated on major highways like the A1, A3, A7, A9, and others. Last year, the day before saw one of the five most congested driving days of the year. The ADAC warns of particularly high traffic volume on Thursday afternoon.
The driving ban for trucks over 7.5 tons, from midnight to 10 pm, is expected to help alleviate the situation. However, international travel traffic on neighboring countries' highways, such as the Tauern, Inntal, and Brenner routes, is also likely to increase. In addition, the Oktoberfest in Munich ending on Sunday, October 5th, will add to return traffic around the Bavarian capital.
To minimize fuel costs, drivers are advised to use the 'mehr tanken' app to locate cheap fuel and charging points for electric cars. Around 1,300 construction sites on German highways are also contributing to bottlenecks.
With holidays, events, and construction sites combining to create heavy driving, German motorists are advised to plan their journeys carefully. The driving ban for heavy trucks aims to provide some relief, but increased traffic is expected on major routes. Using the 'mehr tanken' app can help drivers save on fuel costs during their travels.
