Hanoi's Tourism Landscape Transforms Ahead of Major Anniversaries

Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, is gearing up for a significant tourism revival as it prepares to celebrate the August Revolution 80th anniversary and Vietnam's National Day in early September 2025. The city has been making strides in enhancing its tourism offerings, with a focus on historical landmarks, innovative festivals, improved services, and global promotion.

As of now, Hanoi boasts 58 certified tourism service establishments, including 25 dining venues, 22 shopping outlets, and nine entertainment sites. These establishments contribute to enhanced visitor experiences and increased spending, with the city also boasting 3,761 accommodation establishments and over 71,200 rooms. Among these, 85 hotels and serviced apartments are ranked between one and five stars [1].

Despite the growth in arrivals, the average room occupancy in July reached 56.94%, a slight decrease of 1.6 percentage points compared to the same period last year. However, the upcoming months are expected to see a surge in tourist interest, particularly during the holiday period from August 30 to September 3, when major parade and commemoration events take place [3].

Among the city's key upcoming highlights is the Hanoi Beverage Festival 2025, scheduled from August 29 to September 2 at Thong Nhat Park. This inaugural festival features traditional drinks like lotus tea, egg coffee, and sticky rice wine, along with modern mocktails, aiming to add a festive flavor to the celebrations [1][2].

Moreover, Hanoi's initiatives for the upcoming anniversaries focus on three main areas: enhancing tourism products and services, event organization, and communication/promotions. Key highlights include Historical Urban Tours, the “Ha Noi by Night” Series, and the National Socio-Economic Achievements Exhibition [1].

The city is also working on developing new tourism products under the theme "Hanoi Tourism - A Convergence of Quintessence 2025". Key areas of focus will include agricultural tourism, night tours, golf tourism, and community-based offerings aligned with traditional ethnic cultural experiences [2].

In addition to these efforts, Hanoi plans to participate in major domestic and international tourism fairs such as ITE Ho Chi Minh City, Da Lat Tourism Golden Week, Osaka Expo (Japan), ITB India, and IFTM Top Resa (Paris) to boost its visibility [2].

Furthermore, the city is positioning itself to attract higher visitor volumes in the months ahead, while supporting long-term growth objectives, with a clear focus on sustainability and quality [4].

As 2025 unfolds, Hanoi has emerged as the focal point of Vietnam's tourism sector, showcasing promising signs of revival and significant appeal [5]. The department is also working on training 200 students in tourism and hotel skills through the Lifelong Learning project [6].

In the first seven months of the year, Hanoi received 18.36 million visitors, marking an 11.6% increase on-year. The total revenue generated from tourism during this period was estimated at $2.86 billion, up 14.5% on-year [7]. Tourism revenue for July reached an estimated $419 million, marking a 13.9% on-year increase [8].

With these initiatives, Hanoi aims to transform its tourism landscape, combining cultural heritage, innovative festivals, enhanced services, and global promotion to mark the historic occasion [1][2][3][4]. As the city gears up for these major anniversaries, it is poised to attract both domestic and international tourists, further bolstering Vietnam's position as a sought-after travel destination.
