Celebrating Culture and Unity: The 50th Anniversary of the Folklore Circle Gütersloh
Gütersloh, a city in northwest Germany, recently hosted a vibrant and culturally rich folklore festival as part of its 200th anniversary celebrations. The three-day event, which marked the 50th anniversary of the Folklore Circle Gütersloh, attracted nine groups from seven countries, enriching the cityscape with over 160 dancers, musicians, alphorn players, and flag throwers.
The Folklore Circle Gütersloh, a staple of the city's association life, has been promoting peace, international understanding, and the preservation and development of cultural traditions for five decades. The Circle meets every Tuesday from 7:15 PM to 9 PM at the Forum of the Carl-Miele-Berufskolleg Gütersloh, Wilh.-Wolf-Str./ Corner Wiesenstraße.
During the festival, members of the Folklore Circle donned traditional costumes from Westphalia and other German settlement areas. The colorful scene of festively dressed people singing a common song for peace was a highlight of the event. Notable performances included an alphorn concert and folk dance at the altar, described as a rare sight.
The festival also featured diverse performances in the city center, an impressive parade, and a public ecumenical service in the Apostelkirche, which was described as unique and impressive. The festival's climax was the ball in the large hall of the Stuwe-Weißenberg dance school, with over 200 guests welcomed by Mayor Matthias Trepper on behalf of the city.
Throughout its history, the Folklore Circle Gütersloh has travelled to countries such as Morocco, Spain, France, Czech Republic, Belgium, and Italy. Today, people of all ages dance and make music in the Circle. For more information about joining the Folklore Circle, call 05205 / 70987.
