The 190th edition of the world-renowned Oktoberfest has officially begun in Munich, Bavaria, on September 20th. This annual event, deeply rooted in Bavarian traditions and cultural identity, attracts millions of visitors from around the globe.
Munich, the host city, anticipates the creation of around 13,000 additional jobs to manage the high number of attendees. The total economic value of this year's Oktoberfest is estimated to be approximately 1.6 billion euros, as calculated by Munich City.
The Oktoberfest, beyond its economic significance, plays a crucial role as an ambassador for Bavarian traditions, cultural identity, and way of life. It is inseparably linked with Munich and the Free State, serving as a significant cultural factor.
The vbw - Association of Bavarian Business e.V. highlights the Oktoberfest's importance to Bavarian cultural identity and considers it an essential economic factor for Munich and the Free State. Bertram Brossardt, the CEO of vbw, emphasized the Oktoberfest's contribution to the income of the hotel and catering industry, retail, showman industry, and service providers in the event sector.
Last year, approximately 6.8 million visitors attended the Oktoberfest, making it one of the most popular events in the world. As the largest folk festival, it showcases the best of Bavarian hospitality and traditions.
Bertram Brossardt, in his role as the CEO of vbw, expressed his wishes for all visitors to have a pleasant and peaceful Wiesn 2025. Additionally, he advocates for a Munich bid for the Olympics, believing it would have significant positive economic importance for the city and the Free State, supporting its position as a globally strong industrial location.
While no new expectations about the Olympic bid's economic effect were mentioned, Brossardt expects a similar positive economic impact from a successful Olympic bid, as he did for the Oktoberfest. The city of Munich, known for its warm welcome to international guests, anticipates many visitors from the USA, Italy, the UK, France, and Spain, among others.
As the Oktoberfest continues, it serves as a reminder of the rich cultural heritage and economic importance of Munich and the Free State of Bavaria, attracting visitors from around the world and showcasing the best of Bavarian traditions.
