Let's Chat About the Valuing Festival in Dortmund's North Market!

Get ready for a tantalizing event happening in Dortmund's North Market at the start of July! The Valuing Festival is set to be a vibrant celebration of coexistence among people with and without a migration background. From July 3rd to 5th, this three-day bonanza will feature a flurry of performances, discussions, theater, exhibitions, and music to keep you entertained.

Organized by the Center for Urban Arts Ruhr, the festival's agenda includes a panel discussion with esteemed figures like Ferda Ataman, the head of the Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency, and Sociologist Aladin El-Mafaalani. You'll find this discussion occurring at the Dietrich Keuning House on July 5th.

Other thrilling topics to be discussed will revolve around memory culture, representation, social issues, cultural exchange, and even a memorial for the so-called guest workers. The festival is part of the "Grand Snail Tour" of Urban Arts Ruhr, offering artistic formats in public spaces. Isn't that fascinating?

The Valuing Festival is being held because of the planned guest worker memorial. The organizers stated that many topics surrounding the memorial align with the significant questions posed by Urban Arts Ruhr. For instance, questions like, "Who owns the public space?"

This festival, unlike the memorial in the city center which symbolizes the achievements of those who came to the country, will serve to celebrate the coexistence of people with and without a migration history in Germany.

Kick things off on July 3rd at 3:30 PM with a performance by Havîn Al-Sîndy, where AI-controlled sculptures learn to gossip - a collaboration with Dortmund's Anne Frank Comprehensive School. From 5 PM, you can join discussions with artists like Lütfiye Güzel, radically addressing societal issues like work, housing, and equality. The day will finish at 8 PM with "Notes from a box of chocolates," a public space theater piece by Nail Doğan, performed alongside the Dortmund Migrant Women's Association choir.

For more performances, head on over to the festival on Friday from 4 PM. Havîn Al-Sîndy's creative journey will continue, followed by the tea ceremony performance "Until our tea strainer gets dry," a collaboration with the Museum Ostwall at 5:30 PM. The festival's final day will begin at 4 PM once again, with another performance by Havîn Al-Sîndy. Don't miss the dance session with DJ Öz and Tutku Kaplan at 6 PM!

Wrapping things up, the finale will see the panel discussion "Pentagon Special" at 8 PM in the Dietrich Keuning House, where you'll get to witness experts like Aladin El-Mafaalani and Ferda Ataman navigating societal challenges.
