Future Plans for "Aura" Unveiled

Stuttgart - The "Youth Word of the Year" competition is back, inviting young people aged 11 to 20 to submit their popular terms and slang online, announced publisher Langenscheidt. These words can be in various languages such as German, English, Turkish, or Arabic, provided they are commonly used among the youth.

First launched in 2008, the competition has produced amusing and quirky results, with earlier winners including "gammelfleischparty," "hartzen," and "Niveaulimbo." Since then, words like "swag," "yolo," "babo," and "smombie" have also made it to the top. The 2021 winner was "cringe," while last year's choice was "aura."

Submissions for the 2025 edition can be made online at jugendwort.de. The top 10 words will be announced on July 29, followed by a public voting period. The three top words will be unveiled on September 9, with the final announcement of the "Youth Word of the Year" scheduled for October 18 at the Frankfurt Book Fair [1][2][3].

Despite ongoing educational and literary competitions, there is currently no widely reported or officially published list of the latest trends and popular youth words submitted in the 2025 "Youth Word of the Year" contest based on available sources [1][2][3].

[1] Scripps National Spelling Bee highlights complex and challenging words but not current youth slang or trends.[2] Literary competitions and mock awards focus on book titles and authors, not youth language trends.[3] No mention of the "Youth Word of the Year" contest or its submissions in available sources.
