G F Tomlinson Completes Expansion and Renovation of King Edward VI School

G F Tomlinson has successfully completed the £3.9m expansion and renovation of King Edward VI School in Lichfield, Staffordshire. The project involved a strong collaboration between G F Tomlinson, Staffordshire County Council, Arc Partnership, Entrust Property Services, and BPN Architects.

The expansion works included the construction of a new three-storey extension on the site of a former swimming pool that had been closed for over ten years. The new structure houses enhanced teaching and auxiliary spaces, as well as an administration area on the lower ground floor. A modular building was also constructed as part of the project, delivered by Ideal Modular, part of G F Tomlinson's existing supply chain.

The expansion and renovation works have created additional space for staff and pupils, transforming the school into a bright and welcoming place for present and future students. According to Jane Rutherford, headteacher at King Edward VI School, the project team from Staffordshire County Council, Entrust, and G F Tomlinson has brought long-held ambitions to life, resulting in accommodation that matches the high standards of achievement at King Edward VI School.

Dan Maher, managing director at Arc Partnership, has commented on the successful collaboration between the parties involved in the project. He stated that the delivery of the expansion and new modular building at King Edward VI School was a testament to the strong working relationship between Staffordshire County Council, G F Tomlinson, Entrust Property Services, and Arc Partnership.

Helen Riley, deputy CXO and director for Families and Communities at Staffordshire County Council, has stated that the work on King Edward VI School has enabled the school to expand, meeting the increased demand for secondary school places in the area. The school will now be able to increase its intake by 30 places a year, providing an additional 150 places in total.

G F Tomlinson was awarded further refurbishment works at the school, which included window replacements, new windows, ceilings, floors, and interactive whiteboards in classrooms. The construction works also included external works as an add on to the original scheme, including new railings, fencing, outdoor steps, and re-surfacing works.

This is the second scheme G F Tomlinson has completed through the Staffordshire Construction framework for Staffordshire County Council. The company is currently working on projects at Anker Valley Primary School in Tamworth and Greenwood Healthcare Centre in Burntwood.

Phase two of the works involved the installation of a brand new standalone modern modular structure for enhanced science laboratory teaching facilities. The school is delighted with the new and refurbished accommodation, and the students and staff are already seeing the benefits of improved learning environments. The expansion works at King Edward VI School have been completed ahead of the new school year to allow for essential education places.
