Festival showcasing craftwork, historical artifacts, and active audience involvement at the museum
The Bergisches Museum for Mining, Crafts, and Trade is set to host its annual Traditional Museum Festival on Sunday, August 3rd, 2025. From 11:00 to 17:00, the museum grounds framed by historical half-timbered buildings opposite the Technical Town Hall will come alive with a diverse program aimed at making history come alive in a fun and engaging way.
The festival, organized by the museum's support association with the help of numerous volunteers, is a longstanding tradition that has been continued for over 40 years. Museum director Sandra Brauer expresses her excitement about the event, emphasizing the opportunity to make regional craft traditions tangible and bring people together.
Willi Carl, chairman of the support association, states that the museum festival is a perfect opportunity to show how much fun it is to convey history in a lively way. He adds that the festival is more than just an exhibition; it's an immersive experience that invites visitors to participate and engage with the past.
The festival will feature live demonstrations of historical crafts, including baking in a historical oven, blacksmithing, spinning and weaving, operating the hammer mill, and running the 1907 locomotive. Visitors can watch these demonstrations and even try their hand at some of the crafts themselves.
Children will have the chance to participate in creative interactive activities like making houses out of clay and straw, making herb salt, crafting, and face painting. An archaeological tour will explain the tools used for mining in the past, offering a unique insight into the region's history.
The festival will also offer regional food and drinks. Visitors can enjoy freshly baked bread from the historical bakery, coffee and cake, as well as savory and vegetarian grilled dishes. Refreshments will include cold drinks to keep visitors hydrated throughout the day.
The permanent exhibition in the old half-timbered house provides insights into the daily life of people in the region in the past. The lantern tours through the visitor's tunnel offer families a unique opportunity to experience the history of the Bensberg ore district.
Admission to the festival is 3 euros for adults, 1.50 euros for reduced tickets, and free for children under school age. The support association is putting on a colorful interactive offer with great dedication, ensuring that the tradition of the museum festival continues for years to come.
Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the region's history and traditions. Mark your calendars for August 3rd, 2025, and join the Traditional Museum Festival at the Bergisches Museum for Mining, Crafts, and Trade.
