Exciting vacation period in full swing for elementary school children
The Am Hahnberg primary school in Fulda recently hosted a unique summer camp, filled with a variety of interesting activities and experiences for its students. The week-long adventure, which took place during the summer holidays, brought together children from the school to embark on an unforgettable journey of learning, exploration, and fun.
The camp began with the children traveling by bus to Fulda, where they would spend the next five days. Upon arrival, they were warmly welcomed and settled into their accommodations at a local youth hostel.
Each day of the camp was carefully planned to ensure a balanced combination of educational, cultural, physical, and recreational activities.
Day 1: Arrival & Getting to Know Each Other
On the first day, the children participated in a series of ice-breaker games to help them get to know one another. They also took part in a nature walk around the camp area, learning about local flora and fauna, and engaged in arts and crafts sessions, creating personalized camp T-shirts or name tags. The day concluded with a campfire, complete with storytelling and a sing-along.
Day 2: Exploring Fulda’s Nature and History
The second day began with a visit to Fulda’s city park and botanical garden, where the children embarked on a guided nature scavenger hunt. They also visited the Fulda Cathedral and took part in a children’s guided tour, learning about the city’s rich history. In the afternoon, they participated in a creative workshop, where they drew or modeled clay inspired by Fulda’s architecture.
Day 3: Outdoor Adventure and Environmental Education
Day three was dedicated to outdoor adventure and environmental education. The children took part in a treasure hunt in the nearby forest or open area, and they learned about recycling and protecting nature during an environmental workshop. Afternoon activities included water games and splash activities (weather permitting), as well as a mini sports tournament.
Day 4: Creativity and Teamwork
On day four, the children took part in a drama and music workshop, preparing a short play or musical performance. They also participated in team challenge activities, such as obstacle courses, puzzles, and group problem-solving games. In the evening, they showcased their talents during the camp talent show, which included singing, storytelling, and a variety of performances.
Day 5: Farewell and Reflection
The final day of the camp was filled with free time for last-minute activities, a group reflection circle, and a farewell ceremony. The children said goodbye to the Fulda youth hostel and prepared for their journey home.
In addition to the activities mentioned above, the summer camp program also included visits to the Children's Academy, the Vonderau Museum, and a fire museum. The children also enjoyed stops at an ice cream parlor and various playgrounds in the city, as well as a fun city rally to explore the sights of Fulda.
The highlight of the visit to the Children's Academy was an interactive museum with a special exhibition on artificial intelligence. At the fire museum, the children were captivated by the "Walk-through Heart," a discovery tour through the organ. To cool off after the fire museum visit, the children enjoyed a water playground.
The summer camp concluded with everyone wearing their painted and signed T-shirts as a memento of the week they spent together. It was a memorable experience for all involved, and the children left with new friendships, memories, and a deeper understanding of their city and its history.
