Enhanced Collaboration Across Various Sectors between Vietnam and Algeria

In a significant step towards strengthening ties, a delegation from Batna, northeastern Algeria, travelled to Điện Biên, Vietnam on September 17. The head of the delegation was Mohamed Amine Belkhiri, underscoring Batna's importance in local cooperation with Điệện Biên province.

The visit follows a series of meetings held in the lead-up, including one on September 16 between our Ambassador to Algeria, Trần Quốc Khánh, and Abdelkader Toumi, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Batna Province. The discussions focused on potential cooperation opportunities in agriculture and construction materials.

Khánh acknowledged the geographical distance and limited information but underscored the need for stronger communication and concrete proposals from Algerian partners. Toumi, in response, emphasised the importance of increased exchanges to match business needs.

Toumi also highlighted Batna's advantages in various sectors, such as tourism, agriculture, farm machinery, school furniture, synthetic fibers, pharmaceuticals, ceramics, and cooking oil. Batna's diverse landscapes, fertile land, and abundant mineral resources make it an attractive destination for investment.

The Batna Province's Chamber of Commerce and Industry is twinned with Điệện Biên Province of Vietnam, a fact reaffirmed during the meetings. The sessions also served to reinforce the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Algeria.

Khánh stressed that proactive engagement would open new prospects, a sentiment echoed by Toumi. In a notable move, the governor of Batna announced a Batna delegation would visit Điệện Biên on September 17 to deepen bilateral cooperation. The meeting was attended by representatives of Algerian enterprises, ensuring a productive exchange of ideas.

Batna's rich tourism resources, including the UNESCO-listed Roman city of Timgad, are expected to be a significant draw for Vietnamese tourists. The visit by the Batna delegation marks an exciting new chapter in the relationship between Algeria and Vietnam.

In related news, Algeria has recently promulgated a new investment law and carried out economic reforms to create favourable conditions for domestic and foreign investors. These reforms are expected to further boost cooperation between the two countries.
