Economical Airline Expands Budget-Conscious Travel Options to Florida
Allegiant Air has announced its 2025 network expansion, which includes five new nonstop routes connecting eight U.S. cities. The expansion, set to start between late 2025 and early 2026, emphasizes the airline's focus on linking underserved markets to popular vacation destinations, particularly beaches and leisure destinations in Florida.
New Nonstop Routes
The five new nonstop routes are:
- Fort Lauderdale, Florida (FLL) ↔ Huntsville, Alabama (HSV), starting November 19, 2025
- Sanford, Florida (SFB) ↔ Huntsville, Alabama (HSV), starting February 12, 2026
- St. Petersburg, Florida (PIE) ↔ Huntsville, Alabama (HSV), starting March 5, 2026
- Orlando, Florida (MCO) ↔ Appleton, Wisconsin (ATW), starting January 16, 2026
- Sarasota, Florida (SRQ) ↔ Rochester, New York (ROC), starting February 13, 2026
Florida cities included in this expansion are Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Sanford (SFB), St. Petersburg (PIE), Orlando (MCO), and Sarasota (SRQ).
Additional Growth
Further growth includes Fort Myers, Florida (RSW), with new nonstop flights to Allentown, Pennsylvania; Appleton, Wisconsin; and Des Moines, Iowa announced in a separate expansion. Additionally, a new non-Florida link will be established between Gulf Shores, Alabama (GUF) and Nashville, Tennessee (BNA).
Affordable Travel Options
Drew Wells, Allegiant's chief commercial officer, stated that the expansion reflects their commitment to connecting underserved communities with affordable, convenient travel options. The airline is offering one-way fares to Florida destinations for as low as $49.
Shorter Airport Times and Fewer Layovers
Allegiant's point-to-point model results in shorter airport times and fewer layovers. The expanded Florida footprint of Allegiant makes spontaneous travel easier and cheaper for those in the Midwest or Mid-Atlantic.
International hubs like St. Pete-Clearwater (PIE) and Sarasota-Bradenton (SRQ) offer low-cost service from Allegiant. However, optional extras like carry-on fees, seat upgrades, and food and drinks may affect the final ticket price on Allegiant.
Convenient Services
Travelers should check Allegiant's site for bundled fares or car rental offers. Allegiant charges $5 for printing a boarding pass at the airport. The flights to Des Moines, Iowa (DSM), Appleton, Wisconsin (ATW), and Allentown, Pennsylvania (ABE) will start from Fort Myers in November.
The expansion aims to provide travelers nonstop access to sunny destinations, meaning they spend less time at the airport and more time on vacation. With these new routes and destinations, Allegiant continues to expand its network, broadening its reach in popular vacation destinations, as seen in the 44 new routes it rolled out in late 2024.
