Disney World's Affordable, RV-Friendly Lodging Offers Ideal Camping Experience

Nestled within the heart of the Disney World resort lies Fort Wilderness, a unique and budget-friendly campground that offers a multitude of activities for the whole family. Opened in November 1971, just a month after the Magic Kingdom, Fort Wilderness has been a beloved destination for campers ever since.

This 750-acre drive-through campground is home to over 20 RV loops and approximately 800 campsites, as well as 400 cabins. Reservations for Fort Wilderness can be made up to 499 days in advance, making it easy to plan your next Disney adventure.

Fort Wilderness offers a variety of accommodation options, from basic campsites to premium sites with full hook-ups. RV rates in 2026 range between $125 and $313 a night, placing it between Disney's Value and Moderate resorts in terms of pricing. For those who don't own an RV, Disney-affiliated providers like Escape RV Rental and Kissimmee Orlando RV Rental offer rental options.

The campground is pet-friendly, accommodating up to 10 guests (though this limit will be reset to 8 in 2026). Guests can enjoy the outdoors with playgrounds, arcades, jogging trails, basketball and volleyball courts, and swimming pools with slides.

Transportation within Fort Wilderness includes free Disney buses and boats, plus options for rental bicycles and golf carts. External travel can be managed by car or ride-share, often faster than buses. Disney bus and boat transportation are free for resort guests, while personal vehicles require standard parking fees, which may be included with your campsite reservation. Renting bicycles or golf carts within Fort Wilderness incurs extra charges.

Fort Wilderness is not just a place to rest your head at night. It's a hub of activity, with the Tri-Circle-D Ranch where Magic Kingdom's horses dwell. Carriage rides, horseback trail rides, wagon rides, and pony rides can be reserved or walked-in at the ranch. In December, sleigh rides are available for a festive touch.

For a taste of classic Americana, Trail's End Restaurant at Fort Wilderness offers a quick-service menu with fried chicken, barbecued ribs, and more. After dark, gather around the campfire for Chip 'n Dale's Campfire Sing-Along, a free outdoor movie screening event.

Fort Wilderness also offers unique experiences such as the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue, a vaudeville-style dinner show that celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024. Guests can even buy groceries for their RV kitchen at one of the campground's two trading posts.

Whether you're seeking adventure, relaxation, or a taste of Disney magic, Fort Wilderness offers a budget-friendly and immersive experience that's hard to beat.
