Customs Advisory: Insider Travel Recommendations
The summer holidays have officially begun in Brandenburg, and with many planning trips abroad, the Main Customs Office Potsdam has provided valuable information to help travelers avoid surprises upon their return.
According to the Main Customs Office Potsdam, transmitted via news aktuell, online resources are available that offer information on travel allowances for the import of certain goods from non-EU countries. These resources explain which souvenirs can be brought back from abroad, and they also list goods that should be avoided at all costs.
When entering from non-EU countries or special areas, brought-in goods for non-commercial purposes can be imported duty-free per person within certain quantity and value limits. However, it's essential to note that goods brought from a third country, a special area, or another member state are subject to different regulations if they are sent ahead or afterwards, sent as freight, in the postal service, or transported by an express or courier service.
For alcoholic beverages and alcoholic drinks, the importer must also be at least 17 years old. This age restriction also applies to substitutes for tobacco products, such as liquids for e-cigarettes, and volumetric percentage or untaxed ethyl alcohol with an alcohol content of 80 volumetric percent or more. Tobacco products themselves also require the importer to be at least 17 years old.
To protect endangered animal and plant species, customs advises against buying travel souvenirs made from animals or plants. The trade in protected animals and plants, parts thereof, or products made from them is strictly regulated. For information about protected animals and plants that should not be bought, visit the website www.artenschutz-online.de.
Medicines are also included in the duty-free allowance. For further questions, contact the Main Customs Office Potsdam at [email protected] or visit their website at www.zoll.de.
The customs website and the online brochure "Travel Time - Your Way Through Customs" offer comprehensive information on travel regulations. By being aware of these regulations, travelers can enjoy their summer holidays without worrying about unexpected customs issues upon their return.
