Chinese Aviation Titan Prepares to Break Global Record with Longest Non-Stop Flight
On December 4, 2025, China Eastern Airlines will make aviation history by launching the world's longest direct flight from Buenos Aires, Argentina to Shanghai, China. The flight, operated using a Boeing 777-300 plane, will cover approximately 12,000 miles and take approximately 29 hours, including a technical stop in Auckland, New Zealand for refueling and potential crew changes.
The route, which will beat the previous record-holder, Air China's Beijing to São Paulo via Madrid route, will be a testament to the advancements in aviation technology and comfort. Passengers will be seated in economy class for the long duration of the flight, while business class passengers can enjoy a bed that lies flat, albeit at a steep cost.
However, long-haul flights can come with their own set of challenges. They can cause added stress, dehydration, jet-lag, and bloating. To help combat these effects, it's recommended to adjust one's routine a few days before the flight to cross multiple time zones, eat mild, healthy foods before the flight, and drink lots of water throughout the journey. Short naps after arriving at the destination can also help keep passengers refreshed.
It's important to note that during the stop in Auckland, passengers may not be able to disembark. This means that facilities such as bathrooms may be limited on the long flight. It's advised to avoid indulging in unusual food cravings in the airport before boarding due to these limitations.
Meanwhile, Australia's Qantas airline plans to launch two new flights in 2026 that will reclaim the title of world's longest flight. The two Qantas routes will connect Sydney with both New York and London.
Passengers can already buy tickets for the China Eastern Airlines flight, with one-way economy seats starting around $1,500. With the world's longest direct flight on the horizon, it's an exciting time for aviation enthusiasts and travellers alike.
