Biking through the mystical mountain ranges using electric bicycles
Electronic mountain biking enthusiasts can now embark on a unique three-day expedition through the picturesque Montanhas Magícas region during the eMTB Grand Tour, scheduled from June 8-10, 2025. This breathtaking journey will cover a distance of 280 kilometers across 14 stages, encompassing seven municipalities: Arouca, Castelo de Paiva, Cinfães, Castro Daire, São Pedro do Sul, Sever do Vouga, and Vale de Cambra.
The Grand Tour will follow the Grande Rota das Montanhas Magícas (GR60), offering riders an immersive experience of a territory renowned for its natural beauty, biodiversity, and rich cultural heritage. Cyclists will navigate through valleys sculpted by the Douro, Vouga, Paia, Bestança, Caima, and Texeira rivers, encountering geological wonders, archaeological sites, and historical landmarks.
Initially slated for 2024, the event was postponed due to wildfires, allowing for crucial safety adjustments and route improvements. This delay ensures a high-quality experience that showcases the region's full potential, especially in spring when the natural splendor of the surroundings is on full display.
Organized by the Associação de Desenvolvimento Rural Integrado das Serras de Montemuro, Arada e Gralheira (ADRIMAG) in collaboration with local municipalities, the eMTB Grand Tour aims to highlight the scenic and ecological value of the GR60, which includes four Special Conservation Areas within the Natura 2000 Network and a UNESCO Global Geopark.
The inaugural edition of the eMTB Grand Tour is limited to 50 participants using electric mountain bikes. While not a race, the event promises to be physically and mentally engaging, prioritizing discovery and enjoyment over speed. Riders will explore the region's heritage through its landscapes, architecture, and traditional gastronomy.
The event includes essential services such as transfers, meals, safety support, bike washing, maintenance, and designated parking. Accommodation reservations and payments are the responsibility of participants. Registration for the eMTB Grand Tour is now open.
