Artists temporarily take over castles in Tengen, setting up enduring art spaces

Nestled in the picturesque town of Tengen, the historic Blumenfeld Castle has undergone a remarkable transformation, emerging as a bustling cultural and collaborative workspace.

Once a symbol of grandeur, the castle now offers co-working spaces, facilities for seminars, and further training. The revitalization of this historic site, while specific details remain undisclosed, is believed to have involved restoration work, adaptive reuse for cultural and tourism purposes, and community engagement—elements that likely contributed to its recognition in the "Culture & Tourism" category of the prestigious Staatsanzeiger Award.

The castle's revitalization was accompanied by the launch of the "Summer of Pioneers" project in 2021. Over two pilot phases, 20 pioneers lived in the castle for six months each, developing cultural programs, artistic workshops, and new usage concepts in collaboration with the local population. This experimental approach, which combines culture, tourism, and economic use, was commended by the Staatsanzeiger Award jury.

Blumenfeld Castle is not just a place for work and innovation, but also a hub for cultural experiences. Visitors can attend impulse lectures to witness the six awarded projects up close, and enjoy a variety of cultural programs, including concerts, art exhibitions, readings, and workshops.

In 2023 and 2024, the city created four full-time positions for project development, fostering the continued growth and development of the castle. The city also opened Blumenfeld Castle to creatives and citizens in 2021, giving rise to a dynamic and ever-evolving cultural landscape.

To further engage the local community, the Bürgerverein Schloss Blumenfeld association was founded in 2022, providing a platform for voluntary engagement. New cultural offers regularly emerge at Blumenfeld Castle, ensuring that the development remains dynamic and engaging.

For those interested in attending impulse lectures or learning more about the castle's revitalization and award-winning status, registration and reporting can be found on the official websites provided.
